Mount Forest GO Station, locally known as gare Mont Forêt, is a train station located in Mount Forest operated by GO Transit. The station is under a contract issued by the government of Concord County to GO Transit. The station is located at 30 chemin Bianchi.
The station is the only train station, operated by GO Transit, located outside of Gravenhurst Region. However, there have been plans of creating another train station operating by GO Transit located in Long Region. Terms are currently being discussed between Long Region and Gravenhurst Region. The station serves Texas Corridor Line and is the terminus for the line.
The station is connected to 2 GRT routes, and is gCard compatible.
The station is equipped with a border control office. All passengers embarking or disembarking from the train must go through the border crossing to comply with the Concord County - Gravenhurst Region Bus Crossing Treaty, as signed by both regions in 1984. This treaty, in 1995, was also ratified for train usages as well.
History
Mount Forest GO station originally began as Station Traineau du Mont Foret, as operated by the Concord County Railway in 1930, as an attempt to unite the entire county. However, the ridership of the railway has been very low, due to the low population of the corridor. In 1984, the county decided to contract the station's operation and its nearby railway corridors to GO Transit, as an attempt to solve Concord County Railway's financial problems.
