Old Minister (Spring 2010 population 58) is a police village in Gravenhurst Region. Located as part of the Archemedes Metropolitan Area, the municipality is the smallest in terms of area of the region.
Old Minister is currently the only police village remaining in the region, spanning over an area 9.24 squared kilometer. It is completely enclaved within the Town of Dixie - Dundas - Lloydminster.
Old Minister was formerly a community, part of the Town of Dixie - Dundas - Lloydminster, prior to 1997.
In 1997, local residents of Old Minister demanded to form their own police village. The local residents, account for about 50 residents, were extremely unhappy of how the local government of Dixie - Dundas - Lloydminster ignored their existence, and over the years, there had not been much resources put into the community, while other communities within town gained community centres, schools, hospitals, bus terminals, et cetera. After a long application and court hearings, in 2001, Old Minister was ruled to be an independent police village. On July 1, 2002, Old Minister was officially approved by the King and became a police village on its own. The community remains to be a police village to this date.
The police village features a community centre, which was formerly funded by the Dixie - Dundas - Lloydminster government. While after separation it is still running, the community centre greatly reduces its services due to budget constraints. In additional, the community centre functions as the municipal office for the police village.
The police village does not have any commercial activities. Residents either work within the two community farms within the boundary of the police village, or commute to nearby cities, such as Archemedes and Iranquay - Manhatten - Kanata for job sources.
In the spring 2010 census, the official enumeration of the population of the police village is 58, which is fairly stable through the past censuses.
The police village ranks 39th out of 42 municipalities in the region in terms of population.
