The Spring 2009 Census was an enumeration of the population of residents in the Regional Municipality of Gravenhurst. Census day was April 2, 2009. The estimation date (the date when the results of the estimates of the population in each municipality is released) was on February 18, 2009. The next census will be held in August 2009, with the estimation date in either late June or in July 2009. The population enumerated in the Spring 2009 Census was 726,893. The count was higher than the original estimation of 700,000. The last census reported the region has a population of 625,047, and when compared to this census, the population has been risen by over 100,000, by 14.01%. The census department credited the huge rise in population was due to amalgamation of the City of Mapleview, as well as new developments in Sydenham, Donsley, Lisi, and Archemedes.

The last census was the Winter 2008 Census; the next census will be the Summer 2009 Census.


In the Spring 2009 census, there were 39 municipalities, with the largest still being Archemedes, with a population of 316,109. The next largest is Vandehogan, with a population of 104,317. The smallest being Muskoka Lake, a new community developed out of the Gravenhurst Unorganized District, with a population of 4.

In the census, there were 5 types of municipalities: City, Town, Township, Village, and Police Village.
